A new survey by CDW warns that midsize companies are catching the pessism from their small business compatriots. The latest edition of the bimonthly CDW IT Monitor says that midsize companies may be planning to reduce IT investment. The IT Growth Monitor dropped from 77 to 70 from February to March, while the percentage of midsize businesses expecting to hire new hire IT staff in the next six months fell from 31% to 21%. Smaller businesses had already been more pessimistic (51 on the Growth Monitor), while larger companies seem to be holding on to their optimism (scoring 80).

These declines come even though businesses keep the faith on IT's ability to drive business growth. "88 percent of medium size businesses believe that IT is effective in helping to achieve the companys mission and goals" according to the Monitor -- higher than the 82% figure for all businesses.
