TECH STOCKS: Good News Fuels Wall Street Rebound

Positive news from General Electric, Intel, and Home Depot rallied the market after the previous day's losses.
Positive news surrounding three big movers and shakers on Wall Street--Intel, General Electric, and Home Depot--fueled investor optimism Friday and brought back the major indexes following Thursday's sharp losses.

General Electric hit profit and revenue targets, and Intel and Home Depot got stock boosts following positive analyst reports. That helped push the Dow Jones up 83.55 points, or 0.9%, to 9,119.59, and the Nasdaq up 18.04 points, or 1.1%, to 1,733.90. The smaller Nasdaq-100 index rose 26 cents, or 0.8%, to close at $31.86. The S&P 500 also got a boost, up 9.43 points, or 0.95%, to 998.13. For the week, the Dow rose 0.5%, while the S&P rose 1.3%, and the Nasdaq rose 4.2%.

The InformationWeek 100 was the oddball Friday; it fell 0.27 points, or 0.1%, to 263.41. But it was a great week for the tech-heavy index, which posted a 3.4% weekly gain.
