Toshiba said recently that the Guinness World Records organization has certified that the company's tiny direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) is the world's smallest.

The cell boasts 100 milliwatts power output, yet is only the size of an iPod Shuffle (not including its methanol fuel tank, which doubles the thickness) and weighs just .3 ounces with fuel.

Toshiba's prototype can run an MP3 player for up to 20 hours.

The technology will be available but in limited quantities as early as this year, according to Toshiba.
