Veritas Expands Linux Support

The vendor's Cluster Server and ServPoint NAS will be available on Linux.
Veritas Software Corp. is adding to its Linux-based software line. The software maker said Monday that its Cluster Server and ServPoint NAS will work with Red Hat's Linux as well as IBM's AIX, Hewlett-Packard's HP-UX, and Sun Microsystems' Solaris.

Cluster Server, which connects servers so one can take over if another fails, will help customers balance workloads across servers automatically, according to the vendor. ServPoint NAS will turn ordinary servers into appliances specializing in file access and storage.

The new products could push Linux further into the data center, Giga Information Group analyst Stacey Quandt says, adding that the network-attached storage software "could commoditize that market and threaten EMC and Network Appliance, as well as Microsoft."
