Yahoo Licenses Sonic's CD-Burning Technology

The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based portal giant is expected to use the technology in the software for its recently launched online music subscription service and its media player.
Yahoo Inc. has licensed Sonic Solutions's technology for copying digital music on CDs and DVDs, Sonic said.

The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based, portal giant is expected to use the technology in the software for its recently launched online music subscription service, called Music Unlimited, and its Musicmatch Jukebox media player, Sonic officials said this week.

The Sonic AuthorScript technology licensed by Yahoo supports all the major audio formats and new CD and DVD drives, the Navato, Calif., software maker said. The technology is about 1MB, which enables fast downloading, particularly on a broadband connection.

The current version of the Yahoo Music Engine for its Unlimited service, launched this week, does not support copying tunes to CD or DVD.
