Motorola on Monday announced the launch of the Milestone XT720, boasting an 8-megapixel camera and the first Android smartphone to have a Xenon flash.
The Android 2.1-based smartphone also features high-definition video, media, and mobile Internet capabilities. Motorola said it is one of the slimmest 8-megapixel Android smartphones on the market.
"With Milestone XT720, Motorola has taken yet another step towards eliminating the barriers for consumers to creating and consuming media on the go," said Ralf Gerbershagen, VP and general manager for Motorola's mobile devices business in Western Europe.
The Xenon flash featured on the Milestone XT720 is typically more powerful than LED flashes on other camera phones. It also has a 10x digital zoom and a 720p HD camcorder, allowing users to capture, view, and share photos and videos, Motorola said.
The camera-centric smartphone also includes panorama, face detection, multi-shot (six shots in a row), face filter, red eye reduction, and camera-shake prevention. It has a 3.7-inch WVGA (480 x 854) touchscreen and an HDMI cable to allow users to display videos on an HDTV or monitor. It has an 8-GB microSD card that is expandable up to 32 GB of memory and offers GPS navigation, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. The smartphone is 60.9 x 115.95 x 10.9 mm.
The Milestone XT720 supports multiple e-mail accounts so users can separate and manage their work and personal inboxes.
The Milestone XT720 is available in Europe. Motorola did not disclose pricing information or whether the phone would ship in the United States.
