Users of Siebel Systems Inc.'s employee-relationship management application now have financial-planning capabilities through a partnership between Siebel and Comshare Inc. The companies said Monday that Comshare MPC, the vendor's budget-planning and financial-analysis application, has been integrated with Siebel 7 ERM.

The alliance means that human-resources managers can use Comshare's software to analyze data generated by the Siebel 7 ERM application for tasks such as expense budgeting and strategic planning. For example, the combination will help managers set salary spending targets and manage employee-related expenses such as benefits. Siebel has no plans to resell the Comshare software.

While enterprise resource planning and customer-relationship management applications have helped companies reduce costs through automation, the economic slowdown has put pressure on managers to gain better insight into their company's business processes by leveraging the data generated by ERP and CRM apps. That's led to closer ties between application vendors and suppliers of business-intelligence and financial-analysis software.
