The investigation by the Department of Justice into the market for graphics processors appears to be widening. Nvidia reported Friday that it had received a subpoena by the department. Previously, AMD reported that it had been subpoenaed by the Justice Department, which AMD said is investigating potential antitrust violations in the graphics-processing market.
Both AMD and Nvidia said they would cooperate with the investigation. Neither company has been charged with anything.
AMD noted that it entered the graphics processor business with its recent acquisition of ATI Technologies. Nvidia has been in the business since 1995, when it launched its first product.
The investigation opens a new front in antitrust for AMD, which has been involved in bitter litigation with rival Intel.
