Re: Cheaper Windows 8.1 all-in-one
"I would say the iMac has enough features to price it higher than the Windows 8 machine I mention (which I just saw on Bestbuy.com for $799). But $1100 is still too much for most budgets. "

Shane, apart from quantifying the price there may be some other marketing strategy. If they are targeting for some premium segment; they will fix the price to match with that level.

Re: "Budget" Option?
^^I thought the same thing. It's a steal at $1,100, right? Right. :-)

Re: Cheaper Windows 8.1 all-in-one
"So it's a better deal, if you don't mind Windows 8. But when you consider the iMac has 8GB of RAM compared to the ATIV's 4GB, and the iMac's Intel i5 chip compared to the ATIV's AMD A6 chip, the difference isn't so bad. I guess we're at the point we're Apple has brainwashed us enough into thinking that $1100 for a low-level iMac is a steal."

Shane, so you mean that this iMac's price is quantifiable or justifiable. But one thing is Apple always keep a premium rates for all their products, to keep their brand name.

"Budget" Option?

I find it funny that Apple calls this its budget model. I guess it is compared to their other models. That being said with 8GB of ram and the processor it isn't too bad but it is still out of reach of many budgets.

Cheaper Windows 8.1 all-in-one
I was recently involved in a Windows 8.1 all-in-one purchase (ok I helped set it up). It was the Samsung ATIV One 5 for $899. The ATIV has same 21.5-inch screen size (it's a touchscreen) but has a 1TB hard drive, double that of this iMac. So it's a better deal, if you don't mind Windows 8. But when you consider the iMac has 8GB of RAM compared to the ATIV's 4GB, and the iMac's Intel i5 chip compared to the ATIV's AMD A6 chip, the difference isn't so bad. I guess we're at the point we're Apple has brainwashed us enough into thinking that $1100 for a low-level iMac is a steal.
