Great Idea!
This is a great idea whose time has surely come. I wish American schools would emulate this practice! For one thing, by making coding mandatory you'd eliminate the 'geek' factor; all students would have to study it, so there'd be no social stigma attached to anyone who chose to learn coding. For another, youngsters typically have no idea what they like or are good at, so early learning could open doors that otherwise wouldn't be discovered.

Granted, it's difficult to squeeze in another item into kindergarten or elementary students' already busy agenda. An advocate of the arts, music, and sports, I certainly don't think any of those important subjects should be cut (although too many districts are placing them on the chopping block). That said, surely there's a way to incorporate coding into math or science if schools can't create entirely new classes?

A right approach
This is indeed the correct approach - starts doing hands-on work from childhood if the boy or the girl is really interested in it. The children is lack of advanced algorithm, data structure knowledge but this does not prevent them from learning basic coding skills. Furthermore, it will benefit them in the long run by starting earlier.

Re: Great Idea!
I agree, there is still a stigma attached to coding as being either a nerd thing, or a guy thing.  By having it as a requirement to take a few classes so all kids are introduced to it, it'd be easier to first ensure everyone has exposure to it, not just those who have access to computers at home etc, but also to give each child a chance to figure out if it is something they are interested in.  With the huge demand for coding specialists, especially 10 or 15 years down the road, it's a perfect time to start to get these types of programs in schools.
