The doctor-patient relationship is spoiled by insurance policies that come between doctors and patients. The relationship can't be repaired while a third party meddles with it.

Doctors Are People
Doctors are people and, I've found by personal experience, that if the original doctor makes an incorrect diagnosis then subsequent doctors' diagnoses can be tainted -- especially if they all regularly work together at a hospital or within a practice. By didactically refusing to listen to a patient or even view recent reports from a non-partnering healthcare provider (like another doctor who has priviliges at a different hospital), some doctors promote the idea that they view themselves as residents of an Ivory Tower who should not be questioned by mere patients.

On the other hand, other physicians welcome questions and second opinions, and are even open to holistic and herbal medications -- or at least discussions of these topics. Like every other professional, physicians are not gods or demons; they are people. Some are good, some are bad, many are in the middle. The right technologies, implemented well, can help many improve at their jobs and, therefore, be better at treating and diagnosing patients.
