Sounds familiar
I know this scenario all too well. Many family trips have been ruined for me because I need to spend them fixing aunt and uncle's toolbar infested browsers.

@ Whoopty

Glad to hear I am not the only one that gets hit with "Hey can you look at this for me" whenever there is a family gathering!

Yeah, I can absolutely relate to this, often its the "hey, while we're waiting on dinner, can you pop upstairs and take a quick look at my computer(s)? I'm having trouble with "X".  It'll only take a minute". There's no such thing as a free dinner it seems!

I have seen some really bad SLA's during my career and it always makes me wonder who was the person who signed off on it ?     Of course they are never there anymore.

Sounds like my relatives  -- especially those who call at midnight with their computer questions. This SLA is easy in my orbit!

I particuarly like when family members call at night, late, and say "you're not on the SKYPE!" And "the SKYPE doesn't work"....

Technocrati, when vendors prepare SLA's they used to incorporate all the points which are relevant and favorable to them; which is always a one sided agreement. So its better to have a legal opinion before signing any such agreements.

@Laurianne     Really ?   You are such a kind person to do tech support during the holidays, but if they are really kind relatives than it is much easier to take.  : )

Luckily, I can send them to the genius bar if they have REALLY messed up the device. Never got to do that with the old Windows laptops.

Laurianne, now a day's these two are unavoidable parts of life. Even in sleeping also, they used to keep these devices by the side of pillow.

@ Lauraine

I told my friends and family that they better start showing up with gifts when they want some free tech support! My neighbor baked me a pecan pie the other day when she accidentally messed up all the settings on her iPhone. She made the pie before she even called me... Yes, bribery will get you somewhere ;)

I'm all for old-fashioned bartering. I got a lovely bottle of Grey Goose when I edited (and mainly rewrote) a friend's resume and cover letter. (I didn't open the bottle until AFTER I'd finished working on his CV!) He got the job, so I guess it was a good investment!

Alison, good but we used to offer such services free of cost to our friends and relatives. It's part of good will and later in some other instances they might help in return too.
