5 Companies That Represent IT's Best
This is interesting for the picture it paints of IT's evolution over the last five years alone. The Vanguard article mentions how they couldn't quite justify the expense of a mobile app in 2010 - funny to think of now - but they wanted to get out ahead of customer demand. Well, it turned out they were right, so it looks like you guys picked a winner. Fast forward to 2014, and it makes you wonder if Pfizer's big data analytics approach will seem like just as much of a no-brainer in 2018. Sprinkle in some early IoT-style innovation from PACCAR, and earlier struggles with EHR integration (I was pleasently surprised how many healthcare companies made this list), and you have a fairly accurate snapshot of IT's trajectory in the first half of this decade.

There's something to be said for the growing role of sites like InformationWeek in this process as well. IT blogs are certainly a dime a dozen, and that trend has only increased since 2010, but the value of them really shows when you can connect them to business innovations that really make a difference in people's lives. That is, if you can contribute to an ecosystem where companies want to win awards like this, you can help to make a real difference. I read a bit of each accompanying article, and I can really see how you guys have ironed out your coverage style over the years (shorter article length but more densely-packed with useful info) and developed a laser focus on what kind of companies you're looking for (again, the repetition of healthcare orgs shows an eye towards public benefit) with this award. Looking forward to 2015!

Re: 5 Companies That Represent IT's Best
It's really quite hard for larger companies to integrate the most disruptive types of technology. Innovation labs are a way to explore this, and so is having a ventures unit.

All in all, there always has to be people inside large complex companies looking to innovative their IT practices. It's incredibly important.

Re: 5 Companies That Represent IT's Best
There is always such kind of conflict. To utilize the latest technology, you need to be agile. But in big enterprise this is quite difficult. That explains why in many cases the breaking innovation is done by start-ups.
