Don't try to download these apps; consulting required!
Now I'm certain these apps won't be causing meltdowns on the Apple App store: You can't even download them. As IBM's description hints, these apps have to be set up to tap into back-end applications. "Clients need to engage with IBM for the integration and customization for their environment," said an IBM spokesperson in a follow-up interview.

This is consistent with the approach IBM usually takes, but it's not consistent with what people expect when they think of iOS apps. There are plenty of examples of iOS-native and HTML5 enterprise apps that are downloadable and usuable right away. But IBM is not an enterprise apps vendor -- it has always provided hardware and middleware for back-end apps such as CRM, HR apps and ERP. While the likes of Epicor, Infor, Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, Salesforce.com and Workday can provide mobile apps that are pre-integrated with their applications, IBM has to integrate its way into that data and those workflows.
