That's a good question. I've read suggestions that Intel's massive investment was designed to keep Cloudera out of Oracle's hands. In the process it made a quick IPO less likely because an IPO at this early stage probably would not recoup that money. So Cloudera must grow into a large and successful company for Intel's 18% stake in Cloudera worth $700+ million.

So what's Cloudera worth?
Hortonworks presented its IPO with a great deal of skill and now has an extremely happy group of investors. Makes me wonder what privately held Cloudera is worth, with its five-year growth rate of 4,439%, according to Deloitte Fast 500. 18 mons. ago, it hired Tom Reilly as CEO, who has experience taking companies public.
