More competition = more possibilities

"Understand that watch companies don't know how to market to tech consumers," wrote Biggs. "Swatch and its associated companies offer lifestyle, not tech."

But how far away is 'tech' from the consumer's 'lifestyle'? Tech has slowly been becoming part of consumer's lifestyle so it makes sese that traditional watch makers are interested in putting some more tech in their product. I'm interested in what Swatch can do. I like the idea of some real competition to drive prices down and innovation up with these types of products. A smart watch has so many possibilities, I'll be watching how each one does.

Re: A Watch Manufacturer
I'm not bullish that Swatch will be able to compete with the likes of technology companies like Apple. I think they will be challenged to attract the kind of design and development talent building a smartwatch requires. But if these types of traditional watch companies don't try to compete, they may struggle for survival anyways as a new generation looks towards smartwatches instead of timepieces.

the battle for smartwatches has began
I think this is great news.  The more competition in the smart watch world the better.  I do wonder how consumer would react to such variety of smart watches.  Altough, mac fanatics will wait in line to get such watch. Most regular folks will stand in the sidelines and wait for the hype to come down

A Watch Manufacturer
Watches should not be produced by Apples or Googles -- they will always come up with computers that tell time.
