Re: Helpful
I think google has the best apps for productivity. I used them all the time, specially Google maps.  i agree, if the apps allows me to be more productive and helps me with my daily task, I'm all for it.  I think apple is more known for their devices than for developing apps.

Re: Helpful
I think this is healthy competition and the consumer will benefit from it. I am an Apple fun but I do not insist to have only Apple Apps installed on my phone. As long as the App is good and useful for me, I will take it.

Re: Google Translate is a life saver!
The camera thing is a nice feature of Translate. I didn't know about that. So, I went to Google Play to get it, and surprise, I already have it. Who knew?

These apps are much of a need. No matter how much die heart Apple fan you are, you are using one of these apps daily. Presence of Google apps on Apple app store invites Apple to bring something of equal standing so that people look forward for apps created by Apple too.

Re: Google Translate is a life saver!
Surely a life saver. While I was trying to understand a code written by Japanese programmer, the comments were also written in Japanese. Google Translator helped me finding the exact coding block I was looking for.

Re: Nothing holds a candle to Google Maps
@yalanand,

But in order to create a wifi zone you need a signal, and that would come either from your phone or your car having a celular signal enabled (either option involves carrier charges)

Google translate and navigation systems I don't trust at all. Time and again it has landed me in trouble. I have offended the natives, gone 200 metres off into another building etc. It had been a disaster.

Or you can create a WiFi zone in your car for using the navigation systems the best possible way.

Here maps is in a way better than Google maps when it comes to drivability. It's much too accurate.

Re: Nothing holds a candle to Google Maps
@program2000,

I would be interesting to see if Navigation Systems that are not based on existing smartphone platforms (Google, Apple) to start leverging them to get updates.

I mean, I just have my phone speak the directions via the car's bluetooth and I just mount my phone on the dash.
