Re: IT still not understood
Well said.

If data are not used properly it is just a bunch of useless information. It is very important to know which data is important and which isn't, then you have to know how to analyze the data to meet your needs as well as how to act on the results.

Re: IT still not understood
Hi Gigi3

I agree with you...without IT there is no business, and without business there is no IT.

This is exactly why when I earned my Master of Information Systems degree, I decided to continue on and also ean my Master of Business Administration (I actally just completed that on November 9!). I am now earning my project management certification to go with my MBA which will be done in about five months!

Ariella I am with you!

My first thought was "Dear Lord, someone save the coffee"!!!!!

We can withstand many things...even a vanishing CIO, if we have that wonderful nectar known as coffee!

Re: IT still not understood
"very true. What Oliver Ratzesberger, Senior Vice President of Software at Teradata  said about big data applies to all of IT. "without business results [it] is just a science project."

Ariella, No doubt that big data can play a vital role in Business. The only thing is datas has to be analyzed properly and execute at right sense based on patterns. Otherwise big data is junk and have no use.

Re: IT still not understood
"What's new.  IT has and continues to be perceived as an expensive operational cost that hinders profitability. Little do they consider that profitability happens to run on the network, servers, applications and all of IT. On this perspective, IT understands business, but business doesn't understand IT."

Tag, both has to be complement each other. In modern word, without IT there is no business and without business there is NO IT too.

Re: new reality of todays IT's
Indeed, the nomenclature may stay the same, but the roles will shift as technology is overhauled and changed over the years. That's always the way with changing times.
