I find I tend to make personal improvements when they're less dramatically determined; rather, the big steps tend to happen quietly through making tiny progressions routine.

For instance, in the past couple of months I've almost completely cut out sugary soda from my diet.  Now I have some once in a blue moon, but I've replaced those cravings with flavored seltzer water and Diet Coke (granted, the latter isn't exactly a health elixir, but it's a lot better than the tons of sugar in a regular soda).  Through these small steps, I not only feel better about what I'm doing for my long-term health, but I've managed to lose close to 9 pounds without even trying.

I like your take on resolutions. I try to set daily and weekly goals. Just little things I would like to accomplish in addition to my normal daily routines. It is more satisfying to me to have a a bunch of small successes (or failures) than one big failure...lol
