SharePoint pricing will likely kill any significant Enterprise adoption for companies who don't already use SharePoint for a valid business reason. As with many things MS it is priced outside the reach of many companies.

re: Microsoft Cracks The Code On Social Software (Finally)
This is a great piece, David. I think for a long time people have been OK with waiting for Microsoft to finally deliver what others had been delivering for a while. It was OK because organizations were so locked into Microsoft's server-based platforms. Those still exist, of course, but I think the cloud has made companies far more flexible in their technology implementations. I guess what I am trying to say is that I'm not sure that just because Microsoft is now "officially" in the social game that everyone will want to play with them. With that said, SharePoint, of course, does have a huge installed base, so this may mean that more companies become social businesses (or have the potential to become social businesses, because we all know it's about more than just having the tools).

It's interesting what you say about Yammer's role in all this. The scenario you describe reminds me of features that appear first in cutting-edge Linux distros and then later, in perhaps a more palatable form, in the Linux distro's more business-minded version.
