Non-IT CIO's - business facing information governance
Great post, very interesting. Personally I have always had a problem with "IT Director" or "VP of IT" who call themselves a CIO.  I had not realized until reading your article that Bob Boiko wrote "Laughing at the CIO" in 2007, nearly 10 years ago, addressing this very subject !

The ability to put the "I" back into CIO is probably greater now, with the willingness to talk about and enact Information Governance within some (many ?) organizations. With a CIO with a business background being able to work with a CTO with an IT background being the ideal setup (IMHO), it does appear that the growth of the CDO role can in many ways be reflected upon as a failure of the CIO to get out of the IT infrastructure business.

Interesting times, and it will be interesting to see if the movement to broad Information Governance might see a renaisance for the true CIO.
