re: Interoperability: Quick Route To Better Care
"Healthcare quality and efficiency could move forward 20 years in a matter of months" is a pretty valid reason to push for interoperability, but as pointed out in the posting, it's easier said than done. With no real standards on how to record and save data, and without government intervention either in form of MU or something else, it's unlikely that private enterprises such as EHRs will come together and agree on a standard. That being said, MU does a good job in moving in the right direction. Interoperability will be meaningless if no one is using EHRs. I believe interoperability will be addressed in further stages of MU, but for now the focus will be on digitizing records.
