Another surprise: The University of Central Florida has had a data mining track in its master's of statistical computing for over 10 years. We have also had a SAS Data Mining Certifcate program at the master's level for over 10 years. The last 3 years we have graduated between 12 to 15 master's students and awarded between 5 and 6 certificates, per year. All our master's students have found work in their field upon graduation. We are also the second largest university in the US. I guess we need to do a better job advertising.

I am suprised to see state universities coming up with such innovative programs unlike top schools. Another observation is, Companies like SAS, IBM and Amazon are extending their tech wings by partnering with various schools across US. Northwestern, Fordham,Depaul and MSU and many other from IBM, NCSU and LSU from SAS and USF from Amazon although it is very difficult to tell which program is better from the other. NCSU already has a proven model, I am sure LSU would be able to replicate it.

A "mix of business and data acumen," easy to say, hard to achieve in the right blend. There's nothing like actual profit/loss experience in the business world to sharpen statistical comprehension. Charlie Babcock, InformationWeek
