re: Social Tools Meet Obama's State Of Union Address
I would guess sentiment analysis of a presidential speech is pointless. Too many people already have an opinion before he even opens his mouth. I suppose there is only one way to find out.

It would be interesting to know how open vs. filtered the audience for that Thursday hangout will be. Most people will be in watch/listen-only mode, so who will be the members of the public who get to ask questions? The most active G+ users or the most active politicos?

re: Social Tools Meet Obama's State Of Union Address
Gosh, this sure sounds like window-dressing. Get people to tune in by encouraging them to be social. I'm sure it'll work, because people like to be social, especially about every turn of phrase. However, what would be far more interesting is for the White House to listen and gather the social sentiment and play it all back for us (the public): how many agreed/disagreed? what was the common language of agreement/disagreement? where did the social public (because let's not confuse them with the entire republic) fall on the various issues? what provoked the strongest response? the weakest? what did it tell us? Wouldn't more people want their voices counted for next time, if the White House did all of that this time? And don't make it whimsical, showing people's tweets. Really analyze the data and show us, in a scientific way.
