re: Healthcare Patient Engagement Remains Elusive
Patient engagement does remain a key component in
transforming healthcare. Even though we have made strides toward improving
patient engagement with the focus on mobile apps and patient portals, there is
still a lot to be done. What I see as some of the major obstacles, and as
outlined by the article, is that some doctors are reluctant to ceding the
autonomy to the patients, and its also hard to get patients excited about their
healthcare. With the next generation of doctors and next generation of patients
focused on technology, this will soon change though.

re: Healthcare Patient Engagement Remains Elusive
I agree with Amy Tenderich: Patients can be the catalysts for improving healthcare, and data has the potential to foster patient engagement. As technology advances, more data becomes available, and if we work to simplify the data and turn it into actionable information, patients are more likely to become engaged in their own care. If healthcare providers are able to present data in ways that make people say, GǣThis is my medical history, and I need to do these things to be healthy,Gǥ they begin to take more responsibility for their own health. They may also find that the relationship with their doctor can become more of a care partnership. With sophisticated analytics, tools will emerge that allow patients to have better access to their health data, and patients will be able to track their health patterns on a mobile device. Doctors will continue to determine treatment, but with their own medical information at their fingertips, patients will be able to make smart choices that could prevent a future health scare. -- Will Saunders, president, Government Healthcare Solutions, Xerox
