Unfortunately, the publisher makes that decision. They are more concerned about profits than student access. I have fought with them for a long time about it, but they won't budge. Any advice?

Who makes the rules for how long they have access, you or a publisher you're working with?

I write the textbook for my course and it is an eBook. I think the biggest drawback from the students' perspective is that they no longer have access after the semester ends.

I have to wonder if this pilot might have been a lot more successful if the books had been available for offline reading, as Kindle and other e-readers have trained us to expect. Is it really so essential that these textbooks be online in the sense of being trackable, so the prof knows whether or not students are reading the book? I'd think whether or not they studied would be obvious enough from their test results.
