re: Nokia To Microsoft: Can't Sell Phones Without Apps
What this article does not explain is that the 165,000 WP apps are not available on all Nokia devices. For example, many phones running WP7/Mango/7.8 cannot access some of the WP8 apps. Pandora is a great app on WP8, but get this, its not even available on the new Nokia Phones running pre-WP8 versions! Users have to get a third party app. Same for Instagram...Instagram is about to be released on WP8, but will not function with devices running earlier versions. In fact the marketplace should really be named Third-Party Central. Nokia, prepare your swords for battle because your arguments hold great merit - MS is not holding up its end of the deal at all.

re: Nokia To Microsoft: Can't Sell Phones Without Apps
Wait, whuuut? Microsoft phones failing? This is news. In 2007, microsoft had 37% of the smart phone market. Today... 3%. They just dont get it. When I buy a PC, I want a PC not a phone. When I buy a phone, I want a phone... not a PC.

Hey Nokia, here's an idea: You know what got apps? Android. Follow two simple steps: 1- Sell a Lumia with Android. 2- Profit. You're welcome.

PCs are starting to have an Android button to switch between Windows and Android. How about a Android emulator app -- or better yet dual boot to Android.

re: Nokia To Microsoft: Can't Sell Phones Without Apps
This article sums up many of the challenges Microsoft faces with both Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8: Without better app support, the Windows platforms' benefits get overshadowed by their weaknesses. More people would give Live Tiles a chance if the number of times users discovered delightful new apps weren't so severely outnumbered by the number of times they're let down by the Windows Store's limited selection.

It's a chicken-egg situation. Users are attracted to apps, but app developers are attracted to users. Hard to get one without the other, and compared to iOS and Android, Microsoft doesn't have enough of either.

re: Nokia To Microsoft: Can't Sell Phones Without Apps
The fact is you can't sell phones with a crummy OS. I bought the Nokia 925 and tried to live with it for 5 days. Returned it on the 6th day. The OS is brutal. Too many faults to get into. I think MS could make the OS good. But it sucks now.
