There are potential savings in telehealth operations, although some obvious expenses as well.I would like to see a VA cost/benefit analysis of how it's made it work. If adeveloping condition in remote patients can be detected early, properly diagnosed and treated, then a more serious health impairment may be prevented. Telehealth begins to look like a good investment under those circumstances. And I know some veterans struggle to stay away from the doctor as long as they can, showing up only when they have a seriously deteriorating condition. Telehealth might be part of the answer..

I completely agree, the lack of incentives offered for using telehealth services is definitely holding it back when it comes to integrating it in the healthcare system. There is so much potential out there and so much useful data that it seems almost ludicrous that providers arenG«÷t using it yet, but if you donG«÷t offer any incentives or penalties, then we wont see any progress here. If I was an insurer, I would jump at the opportunity to provide my clients with all the tools they need to maintain their health, as a healthier client is better for business in this case.

EVERY practice I talk with says the same thing... If CMS (and insurers) start reimbursing for telehealth services, you'll see everyone use it.

Interesting that the VA has been able to integrate the telehealth data into its EHR. Integration has been a barrier to the adoption of remote patient monitoring technologies, even if RPM saves time and money.
