There's a growing list "included with Enterprise and above" offerings in the Salesforce portfolio designed to sweeten the deal and get big enterprises to move up to "Unlimited" deals. In the case of Salesforce Private AppExchange and Salesforce Identity, they're also looking to spread the corporate footprint beyond sales/CRM.

Let's say a company has 10,000 employees are 20% are sales. Maybe you could add another 20% if you add service and marketing types. So that's 4,000 ish users assuming the company chooses Enterprise. But what about the other 6,000 employees? The Salesforce Identity add-on for non Salesforce subscribers is $5 per user, per month. Multiply by 12 and Salesforce adds $360,000 to its annual contract. Add the $1 per user, per month for the Salesforce Identity connector option to LDAP and it's another $120,000 per year because all 10,000 are listed in LDAP.

So with just these two options (not to mention Chatter, document management, mobile and so on), and we're looking at half a million bucks. No wonder the unlimited corporate deal starts to look good. This is one small window on how Salesforce is spreading across enterprises.

One example of how Salesforce is executing this in the government space can be found at the General Services Administration (GSA), which is among's largest federal customers, having developed more than
100 apps using its mobile platform.

Four recent products are Rapid Response 311, Mobile Communities for
Government, Government Social Command Center and Platform Mobile
Services for Government. This is believed to be the first time that Salesforce has
created a mobile package optimized specifically for the government's
needs, but is indicative of the value the company sees in doing so.
