Data privacy policies: Mumbo jumbo must go

"Keep the legalese in privacy statements, but use them as appendices to something written in plain English." I wish companies would take this to heart. We have become conditioned (or is it beaten down?) to say yes to software licensing agreements filled with legalese that we don't understand. But privacy policies are more important -- and just as hard to decipher.

I recently said no to something as simple as an app that manipulated photos because I could not understand what the company would and would not do with the associated data. I will keep saying no to apps and services that make understanding that difficult.

I am astonished at how little company employees know about what happens with customer data. Every time a sales clerk asks me if I want a loyalty card or a store credit card, I ask what will happen with the data. They never know! They seem to think I should take my measly 5% off and be glad of it. Bank tellers try to upsell me, but they can't tell me what the bank is going to do with the information it will thus glean. I think it means, actually, that the companies don't know what they're going to do with the data, they just think they should be able to do something with it, and more data will be better. To be fair, it's obvious what some companies want to do with some kinds of data. But they refuse to be transparent, and it is, after all, my data.

World is not clear with big data

I believe that the world is not very clear with what the Big Data is, in reality. There is a great amount of confusion about what are the benefits and potential harms that Big Data carries with itself.

I see people talking about Big Data and it has become a buzz word. People often talk that they are sitting on Big Data and Often spend a significant chunk in the name of Big Data Analytics. But, the hard fact is that most of this, so called Big Data, is Big Noise.

There is a need to create more awareness among people about every aspect of Big Data
