Mobile platforms or Apps?
I guess you meant mobile apps/mobile solutions when you said platform. Platforms are essentially the mobile operating systems like iOS, Android, Windows etc. and every business/enterprise could build apps on these platforms depending on their user base and requirement. But I completely agree that there is nothing as pervasive and collaborative as mobility and businesses are yet to uncover its true potential. Here is how mobility will help you to get more done with less:

Another choice?
Does the need for a mobile dev platform presume that the company will become the developer, rather than outsourcing that mobile dev work? A lot of companies start off outsourcing their mobile development work, and only bring it in-house if that app becomes a major strategic asset -- such as a vital tie to customers. Do companies need this kind of platform if they outsource development?

Or Someone Else's Platform?
I'm missing something here. Why does a company need its own platform? Cannot it rely on a platform used by others that is easily integrated into its own systems?
