Mobile platforms or Apps?
I guess you meant mobile apps/mobile solutions when you said platform. Platforms are essentially the mobile operating systems like iOS, Android, Windows etc. and every business/enterprise could build apps on these platforms depending on their user base and requirement. But I completely agree that there is nothing as pervasive and collaborative as mobility and businesses are yet to uncover its true potential. Another choice?
Does the need for a mobile dev platform presume that the company will become the developer, rather than outsourcing that mobile dev work? A lot of companies start off outsourcing their mobile development work, and only bring it in-house if that app becomes a major strategic asset -- such as a vital tie to customers. Do companies need this kind of platform if they outsource development?

Or Someone Else's Platform?
I'm missing something here. Why does a company need its own platform? Cannot it rely on a platform used by others that is easily integrated into its own systems?
