MS chopping off nose to spite face
If MS is going to make its Droid phone worthless then there is no point to even bringing it to market. Users will be the big losers in the final analysis.

Emerging Markets
The key might well be what they mean by emerging markets - If Nokia plans to sell the devices in countries where the citizens must live on relatively small incomes, incomes that would be strained to pay for regular Windows Phone devices. Nokia will no doubt tailor this forked version of Android in such a manner as to make users yearn for a true Microsoft device, creating a new core of true believers at the very moment that they can afford to become such, and probably even a bit sooner.
