It's not always what you know that gets you the job
The above referenced are all very nice but I can tell you from personal experience that ageism and sexism are very much alive in the IT industry, not to mention the rigid, completely left brained mentality that dictates s very similar, if not identical knowledge, skill sets, abilities are not transferrable from A to B industy. Further, I get the distinct impression that the reason there aren't enough "qualified" applicants is not because there aren't any as much as companies are looking to outsource to the lowest bidders/import the cheapest help.
