Non Backup Based Apps
Great article but it would be great to hear more about apps that make better use of your Dropbox, stuff like IFTTT that allows you to automate daily tasks with Dropbox (and other apps) or Orangedox that allows your track who's reading/downloading your Dropbox files.

Re: Disappointing Dropbox Experience - lost over 6000 files
I've had similar problems. Also out of Dropbox space so my files aren't available on my other devices. Copy is offering 15Gb of free space and they say they are beat dropbox: https://copy.com?r=kwf4hb

Disappointing Dropbox Experience - lost over 6000 files
I have had a PRO Dropbox account for 3 years and up to now have been happy and encouraged others to use it as well.
Yesterday I found out that over 6000 files were deleted. After hours of agonizing communication and checking it turns out it was a mistake done on Jan 26 2014.
How could it be that suddenly – over 6000 files are deleted from a paid account and Dropbox doesn't send one email asking me what's going on?
Then, when I finally find out I have a problem and reach Dropbox support, I'm told that since 30 days have passed – I have lost all these files.
Needless to say – I do not recommend Dropbox for personal use and certainly not for business use – especially when users who are not IT savvy are dealing with their files.
People cannot ignore the trend of cloud storage. Just like smartphone, people will normally feel uncomfortable and unsafe to use such kind of new technology. The smartphone is much more complicated and prone to security attacks then old-days function-only mobile phone such as Nokia 6500. But nobody will go back to those antediluvian stuff. The same thing holds true for cloud storage - DropBox is taking the right approach to address people's concerns.

Re: Encryption add-on
I think that these apps for backing up and locking your information are the most important here. Those are the reasons many still feel uncomfortable with storing things in the cloud.
But the reality is that the cloud is an inevitable storage place. There will always be that small subset of organizations who cannot do so because of security. But for the most part it seems that consumers and enterprises are becoming more comfortable with this idea.
Dropbox is a decent tool to have on your desktop. It gives the ability to store your data and can be accessed from anywhere as long as you have internet. At the same time it can shared among people too.

Re: Encryption add-on
Good question IMJustinKern. I myself primarily use it on my laptop.
There are many apps that play nicely with Dropbox now. Great extension of the product. Of course, there will be things that don't work as well. But quite a few fill distinct business needs.
