MineShare Inc. yesterday began shipping a beta version ofits enterprise portal software designed to help companiescreate and access corporate data via the Internet or anintranet. MineShare Information Portal builds on thevendor's business intelligence software and lets userssearch, catalog, and embed reports and graphs created fromdata stored in a variety of sources, including legacysystems, enterprise software, and data warehouses.
One of the hot new buzz words in enterprise software,information portals could ultimately provide employees withan interactive environment that lets them query databasesfor up-to-date sales numbers, check how many vacation daysthey have, move money in their 401(k) funds, make travelplans, purchase office supplies, read news stories on thecompetition, or even launch an order-entry application.
MineShare's portal software leverages the vendor's MineShareSuite, a system that lets companies standardize theirenterprise reporting and online analytical processingsystems on a common architecture. The portal softwarepresents information in HTML and supports both MicrosoftInternet Explorer and Netscape Navigator. The beta versionof the Web portal software is available now; the commercialversion is slated to ship in May. Pricing is not yetavailable; MineShare Suite, available now, is priced at$100,000.
