The SanDisk Extreme Pro CompactFlash features an advanced memory controller that enables read and write speeds of up to 90MB per second, double the performance of SanDisk's previous-generation memory cards for high-end cameras. The latest cards are available with capacities ranging from 16GB to 64GB.
Besides the high speeds, SanDisk said its Power Core Controller's firmware algorithms and other technologies extend card reliability and maintain data integrity. The combination of speed, reliability, and high storage capacity is expected to appeal to sports photographers and others who need to download and edit images quickly.
The latest CompactFlash cards are guaranteed to operate at temperatures ranging from minus 13 degrees fahrenheit to 185 degrees fahrenheit. In addition, the cards have a silicone coating for protection against moisture and humidity, and can withstand accidental drops of up to nine feet.
The Extreme Pro CompactFlash ranges in price from $300 to $800. SanDisk on Monday also unveiled Extreme CompactFlash cards with read/write speeds of 60MB per second with capacities of 8GB to 32GB. This line is priced $130 to $375.
SanDisk is releasing the pro version of its CompactFlash cards as Nikon, Pentax, Olympus, Fuji, Panasonic, Lumix, Sony, Samsung, and Leica ship their fall lineups of digital cameras.
