BlackBerry Outage: All's Well That Ends Well?

Despite Monday's three-hour service failure, no BlackBerry messages were lost, according to Research In Motion (RIM).The "critical severity outage" impacted users' e-mail and other data services; it was the second widespread service problem reported by RIM since April, raising questions as to whether the company can handle its growing network infrastructure in-house. It also doesn't instill confidence among SMBs, which rely on their BlackBerry email service and for which RIM slashed its prices in November to help attract more as customers.

RIM offered users a mea culpa, but did not say what causes the outage. BlackBerry data services are provided by RIM over multiple wireless carriers, though a company spokesman told InformationWeek the wireless networks weren't at fault.Computerworld, InformationWeek
