Facebook Teams With Intel For Servers

Hexus.net

Facebook has turned to Intel to help keep the ever-expanding social network stable and improve performance. In a collaborative agreement announced today, Facebook will deploy thousands of Intel's Xeon 5400 processor-based servers during the coming year to help scale growth. Intel will also assist Facebook in improving software performance and increasing infrastructure efficiency.

"When you are responsible for providing a fast, high-quality experience to more than 90 million people worldwide, every ounce of efficiency matters," said Kirk Skaugen, vice president and general manager of Intel's Server Platforms Group, in a statement.

Facebook is increasingly being used as an advertising and marketing tool for small and midsize businesses. To wit, last month Visa launched the Small Business Network on Facebook with an incentive of $100 in targeted Facebook advertising to the first 20,000 SMBs that joined.Hexus.net
