KISS Me, I'm Connected

I keep hearing Cisco marketing jabber about "the connected life". What is this connected life of which they speak? Does anyone really know? Is it an electrical outlet in every room? Cocktail parties in the Hamptons? A reference to people with webbed toes?

I keep hearing Cisco marketing jabber about "the connected life". What is this connected life of which they speak? Does anyone really know? Is it an electrical outlet in every room? Cocktail parties in the Hamptons? A reference to people with webbed toes?No one I've asked can tell me with certainty. My mind is half mad.

But this morning brought sweet relief from an unlikley source: legendary 70's glam rock band KISS.

In under a minute and a half, wearing their KISS outfits and makeup, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley disambiguated Cisco's perplexing marketing term.

Spoiler: It has something to do with the future being right now, and handhelds, and going to the hospital for medicine, and reading stuff on the wall. Thanks, fellas!

The real answer is that there is no real answer. So Cisco is holding a contest inviting the public to "tell us your great ideas for future technology innovations that will help design your Connected Life." They want you to make a video and put it on YouTube. Deadline is September 14. Winner gets $10,000.

If the KISS effort is any indication, the bar isn't set too high.

By the way, notice how Simmons and Stanley TOWER over the diminutive Cisco PR exec in the video, both in physical height and in their ability to articulate Cisco's message. To be fair, the PR guy probably wasn't wearing spaceman shoes with 9-inch heels.
