I really don't understand why a hotel such as Marriott would intentionally force their consumers to use their WiFi(even blocking their cell phone carrier service). I agree that consumers should have a choice as to whether they want to use the hotel's WiFi. I agree for individuals whom work with security or top executives, they need to make sure that their data is secure as they travel. I'm surprise that Marriott didn't even announce this to their quests prior to making their reservations, if they are blocking my internet, what they should at least do is inform in advance.
