Continuing our tour around the S60 Summit expo hall, Over The Air saw another handful of innovative applications and services aimed at consumers and enterprise users. Want to find the nearest Wi-Fi? Easy. Need to seamlessly switch your cellphone from business to personal mode? Done. The S60 developer community showed off its latest and greatest stuff at the S60 Summit today in Madrid, Spain. The applications run the gamut and shine a bright spotlight on the capabilities of the Symbian-based platform.
Clicmobile: Using geo-coded locations that are stored on a server somewhere, Clic's MosoMuso software lets you find the nearest Wi-Fi hotspot and displays a compass on the screen to direct you to the right place. You can also use it to find your friends if they have GPS-enabled phones.
ComVu: The aspiring news broadcaster will find delight in ComVu's PocketCaster application that enables any video-equipped cellphone to broadcast video to multiple other handsets. The system also automatically archives all video while it is streamed, eliminating the uploading process.
GPShopper: If you're out and about and realize you just have to have the latest gadget or doo-dad, GPShopper lets you find the nearest retail location that sells it. Simply enter the name of the product you're interested in and your zip code or city, and the application pulls down the closest stores so you can satisfy your craving for instant gadget gratification.
Juice Wireless: For the mobile blogging and MySpace set, Juice Wireless enables users to upload content from their mobile phones directly to their JuiceCaster page or their MySpace page. The application is a client that resides on the handset and lets you interact with your content.
OnRelay: This enterprise application offers an MBX client that integrates employees' mobile phones with their existing corporate PBXs. Essentially the client lets you select between "business" and "personal" settings for your mobile phone. At the end of the day, setting it to "personal" means all business-related calls will go directly to your corporate voicemail and the phone will only accept calls to your personal cell number. The solution includes a presence indicator, allowing users to see which of their coworkers is available or not.
ThinPrint: ThinPrint's Content Beamer 3.0 lets users view attachments without downloading the original file. This could save enterprises some hard-earned cash on reduced wireless data charges. It also lets you print and fax information stored in emails and attachments and beam them computers or printers.
