VMware Releases Automated Disaster Recovery Tool

Virtualization vendor VMware has released Site Recovery Manager for managing and automating the process of disaster recovery.According to Jon Bock, VMware senior product marketing manager, Site Recovery Manager integrates with VMware's VirtualCenter and replaces the standard "recovery run book" that administrators use to know how to bring a crashed server or network back up. "Site Recovery Manager lets users set up a disaster recovery plan and put in all the steps," he said. "You can tell Site Recovery Manager, here are the servers to bring up, here is the order, here is what storage is needed. So if a system goes down, the IT manager can just watch how everything comes back up."

The new product also lets administrators test out recovery plans without disrupting normal activities, and provides automatic failover and subsequent return to the primary system. Site Recovery Manager won?t be available for 30 days but can be pre-ordered starting now.ChannelWeb, ZDNet
