Microsoft Corp. will webcast New York City's Times Square New Year’s Eve 2006 countdown in real time via MSN Video. The event begins at 7 p.m. EST and is expected to last for six hours.
Approximately 26 cameras covering multiple performances throughout New York City will stream live footage over the Internet. Viewers also will have an opportunity to e-mail comments or questions to the co-hosts of the broadcast, who intend to read them live throughout the evening.
Romeo, host of “Romeo on the Radio” featured on New York’s radio station Z100; Angela LaGreca of “The View;” and Brandi Williams, entertainment reporter and host of “Ultimate Poker Challenge” will co-host the event and assist online viewers in navigating through numerous performances.
This is the second year MSN Video has webcast live from Times Square on New Year’s Eve. Microsoft said last year viewers spent 45 minutes on average watching the live coverage. But unlike last year, viewers will have an option to choose the camera angles and the events they wish to view.
Coverage for the 2006 event includes a look into Little Steven’s Underground Garage Live at the Hard Rock Caf, where Steven Van Zandt--of “The Sopranos” and Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band--will perform. Throughout the evening viewers may watch live performances by The Woggles, The Charms, The Chesterfield Kings, The Troggs, The Mooney Suzuki and The New York Dolls.
