NDS To Be Integrated Into TI Digital Signal Processors

Novell yesterday said it plans to integrate its directorysoftware into Texas Instruments' digital signal processors, letting hardware vendors build a new generation of easilymanaged, directory-enabled networking devices.

Novell Directory Services will be integrated into TI'sDigital Thunder digital signal processor platform, which wasalso introduced yesterday. Digital Thunder combines TIdigital signal processors with a software framework anddevelopment environment that vendors can use to developrouters, bridges, voice-over-IP gateways, videoconferencingsystems, and other network devices. By having NDS integrateddirectly into the digital signal processor, vendors cancreate network devices that are self-registering and self-configuring. For example, rather than having to telnet toevery switch in a network to change the way they areconfigured, IT staff could make one change to the directoryand all directory-enabled switches would be automaticallyupdated.

The Digital Thunder platform is available immediately. NDSsupport will not be available until the end of the year;products supporting it won't be available until well into2000.
