Novell Plans Add-Ons, New Product Group
Novell will start selling two applications in the second quarter of next year that will be designed to co-exist with Microsoft products. The products, code-named Curacao and Magellan, will be among the first for a new group at Novell that will focus on add-ons that can be easily installed and rapidly deployed.
Curacao will let users of Novell's GroupWise messaging and collaborative software support the Microsoft Outlook client software -- in addition to the clients currently supported, which include the Win32 client and the Web access client.
Magellan will provide Web publishing, document management, and Novell Directory Services network-management and administration capabilities for users of Microsoft's forthcoming Office 2000 package. Users don't need to be running GroupWise, but will in effect get GroupWise's existing Web publishing capabilities, as well as NDS for centralized management and authentication.
The division that will develop and sell the products will be called the Directory-Enabled Applications Group. Two existing products -- Z.E.N.Works, a set of tools for desktop management, and GroupWise -- will become part of the new group.
