Oracle Goes On The Grid

Oracle is jumping on grid computing with the next generation of its database, application server, and enterprise-management software. Oracle10g, to be unveiled next month, will address grid computing's weaknesses, such as the need for more self-managing software, says Robert Shimp, Oracle database product marketing VP. It will let companies using Oracle's Real Application Clusters technology create pools of clustered systems that can be reassigned to process jobs. Grid computing ties together processing power and storage into a central pool of technology resources that can be dynamically allocated based on need.
