PeopleSoft To Allow Integration Of ERP Software With Third-Party Apps

PeopleSoft Inc. is trying to make it easier for customers to connect PeopleSoft enterprise resource planning software with third-party applications.

The vendor today introduced its Open Integration Framework initiative, which company officials say will allow for the flexible and cost-effective integration of PeopleSoft apps with best-of-breed software, including E-business and legacy systems. The Framework will feature a set of Internet-based application programming interfaces that take full advantage of the Extensible Markup Language.

PeopleSoft says the integration technology will be available in controlled release in the fourth quarter, and will be generally available with PeopleSoft 8 in the first half of 2000. PeopleSoft also says it will partner with leading enterprise application integration vendors to deliver certified, integrated products to customers.

The first of those partnerships is with Software Technologies Corp., whose DataGateWay product for PeopleSoft lets PeopleSoft customers integrate the software with third-party apps, such as SAP's R/3. PeopleSoft says this development effort could pave the way for future integration with Internet applications, such as the PeopleSoft Business Network.
