re: Disruptive Education Advocate Encouraged By Obama Focus
I'm all for evidence based tools for deciding investments. But I think while students may have better tools for deciding where to invest their education dollars, the information will fail to help them see the bigger lessons of economics at work. Namely: Colleges' dependence on federal (need we spellout: Taxpayers') dollars, which continues to give colleges the incentive to borrow more, build more, charge more. So while students may have more data to choose school A over B, their overall investment in college is becoming a costly investment with a ever-poorer ROI. Add to that the fact that taxpayers now back $1 trillion in college loans, and it's getting a little scary to see the next great bubble after housing showing up on college campuses.
