SCO Group: Who Are These Guys?



The company taking on IBM and the Linux community in an intellectual-property dispute over Unix source code sounds like the same company that developed a version of Unix, called Xenix, for Intel's 8086 and 8088 processors 20 years ago, but it's not. The SCO Group was founded in 1994 as Caldera Inc., a Linux developer. In 2001, a spin-off, Caldera Systems, acquired some of the assets of the original Santa Cruz Operation, and, in 2002, it changed its name to SCO Group. The Santa Cruz Operation was recast as Tarantella Inc., an applications-middleware company.
