ECMHUB.com Offers A One-Stop Resource For ECM Information

With so many sources for content management industry information -- print, news sites, RSS feeds, podcasts -- it can be tough to know where to wade into the flood. The launch of ECMHUB.com, the ECMInstitute's new portal, hopes to change that.
With so many sources for content management industry information -- print, news sites, RSS feeds, podcasts -- it can be tough to know where to wade into the flood. The launch of ECMHUB.com, the ECMInstitute's new portal, hopes to change that. With the ambitious goal of creating a centralized location that consolidates industry-wide news and information, ECMHUB.com uses tag cloud-driven navigation to lead to news, blogs, videos and other content. The range of topics is broad, covering everything from enterprise content management and knowledge management to e-discovery to individual vendors.

The technology behind the site is impressive. It has taken some 400 feeds from multiple sources and created a mashup to consolidate them into a constantly growing site with thousands of items.

The Dojo Foundation recently spotlighted ECMHUB.com's implementation of its JavaScript Dojo Toolkit:

What makes ECMHUB unique is the ability for the application to track the status of an entire industry through a massive mashup of blogs, news, Webcasts, events, discussions, videos, and RFPs. Implementing Ajax powered through Dojo provides a single-page, single-click Website that eliminates the need for individuals to search or aggregate industry information on their own.

While that's glowing praise, ECMHUB.com isn't perfect. The navigation is a mix of tags, tabs, and scrolling, which I found to be a little funky. I can't help thinking that while it's clearly Web 2.0 under the hood, its user interface is a little rough around the edges. That said, it was released just a month and a half ago, and it's already off to a great start. I'm certain it's going to be a site worth watching going forward.
